GORUCK SELECTION is not only the toughest endurance event on the planet, it’s also an attempt to bridge the military-civilian divide. Hosted by a group of Special Forces combat veterans, this 48-hour challenge is a condensed interpretation of the US Army’s 24-day Assessment and Selection. For the participants, the event is a chance to test their limits while paying tribute to those who serve. For the Special Force Cadre who lead the event, it’s an opportunity to honor their roots and connect with civilians. Less than 2% of participants finished the first 18 iterations of the event. Will anyone in Class 019 meet “The Standard?"
What is goruck?
Founded by a Green Beret, GORUCK is an American brand with Special Forces roots. GORUCK currently produces gear, apparel, and footwear and puts on hundreds of team-based endurance events every year. Patterned directly after Special Forces Selection, GORUCK Selection is the only individual GORUCK event and participants will be performance dropped if they fail to meet the standard. The Cadre leading the event are actively trying to make participants quit. Their role is to methodically enforce a standard very few people in the world can achieve.
DIRECTOR PHIL WALL
Phil Wall is an award-winning filmmaker. He wrote, produced, filmed, directed and edited “The Standard,” which is his second feature documentary. His third feature, “The Book Keepers,” won the Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at its premiere with the 2020 Austin Film Festival. He lives in Brooklyn, NY, where he works on independent and commercial narrative content. More at philwall.film.
